Throughout his career, Mr. Stern has represented both private and public sector unions throughout California and Nevada. He has extensive experience representing labor unions in proceedings before virtually every administrative agency that regulates labor-management relations including city, state, and county civil service systems, the NLRB, and PERB, and the SPB. He has litigated issues arising from discrimination for union activity, organizing drives, elections, internal union matters, raids, de-certifications, de-authorization, duty of fair representation, employer neutrality, unfair labor practices and judicial review, and enforcement of administrative decisions.
Mr. Stern has represented both blue collar and professional employees in the public and private sector in many fields including: transportation, aerospace, maintenance, construction, education, hotel, food and beverage, entertainment, publishing, and manufacturing.
During his career, Mr. Stern has handled hundreds of discipline and discharge arbitrations as well as civil service proceedings, and has enjoyed a substantial rate of success. He has also represented public and private sector unions in state and federal courts, and the California Court of Appeals and California Supreme Court. Mr. Stern has litigated hundreds of cases before the California State Personnel Board including employee discipline cases, as well as contracting out civil service work.
In recognition of Mr. Stern’s tenacious representation, he was named by his peers as a Super Lawyer for the years 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
